Benioff, Friedberg and Chamath broadly favored selling China advanced chips, though their rationales differed. Benioff called restrictions “irrelevant at this point” because Chinese models already fast-follow US systems without the highest-end hardware; Chamath wants Nvidia—not Huawei—to capture the demand, alongside reasonable KYC against dangerous uses. Chamath predicted Taiwan could lose its present strategic importance within 18 months as fabs scale and the remaining strategic gap may be only “1 to 2 nanometers,” while Benioff declined the host’s forced defense commitment and predicted reconciliation.
Benioff sees a sweeping software rerating, not evidence that enterprise software demand has disappeared. Salesforce was cited down 37%, ServiceNow 42% and Workday 45%, with roughly $180 billion erased, yet Benioff said the top enterprise vendors were still producing strong quarters around two-times-sales valuations. His operating anchor is more than $46 billion of annual revenue, $16 billion of cash flow and 83,000 employees: “You can’t get drunk on the stock price.”
Chamath’s counter-consensus trade is that low-end SaaS may be finished while trusted enterprise platforms could rebound sharply. An OpenAI deployment deal requiring $4 billion and a guaranteed 17.5% preferred return to build deployment capacity showed him that large-company implementation is not “boop boop boop, put in a prompt.” Once markets ask what return came from $3 trillion of AI spending over four years, model companies may need established vendors with strong retention and C-suite access to “sell my tokens.”
Salesforce is betting that proprietary context becomes more valuable as applications turn headless. The $8 billion-$9 billion Informatica purchase targets harmonized, grounded data; Slack’s messages and Salesforce records can feed agents that answer management questions, escalate support calls and revive the 20 million-30 million people Salesforce historically failed to call back. Benioff expects roughly $300 million of Anthropic usage this year while buying back as much as $50 billion of Salesforce stock.
The AI interface race is shifting from chat windows toward coding, personal context and continuously observing multi-sensory systems. The reported OpenAI-Apple rupture exposed the weakness of an integration that requires explicitly invoking ChatGPT, while Google, Apple and Salesforce each possess valuable context layers. Benioff called multi-sensory models “the next big wave,” but rejected the assumption that continuous observation must permanently multiply token costs by 1,000: routing layers should reserve frontier models for the few tasks that need them.
Friedberg warned that a record El Niño could feed directly into agricultural, power and commodity markets. He estimated about 11 million terawatt-hours of excess ocean heat—roughly 500 years of current human energy use—and gave 99% confidence that the coming year would be the hottest in recent history by far. Failed Indian monsoons or Australian and Brazilian crops could create calorie deficits and unrest, while Anthropic’s separate move to negate layered private-company SPVs highlighted another late-cycle risk Chamath called a “recipe for disaster.”

1. Economic entanglement is the summit’s proposed peace treaty
The summit opened with China agreeing that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open, without a military commitment, and that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon. Xi warned mishandling Taiwan could push the countries to “collide or even clash.” The host cited prediction markets assigning only 6% odds to a 2026 invasion, rising to 17% by the end of 2027.
Friedberg’s optimistic framework started with the Thucydides Trap: conflict becomes more likely when a rising power and an incumbent assume resources are fixed. AI, automation and biotech might instead create an abundance cycle in which both societies raise living standards without taking prosperity from the other.
Chamath described economic cooperation as the “simplest and surest path” to détente, provided the entanglement becomes bidirectional rather than China merely supplying cheap goods. He expects negotiations over energy, critical technologies and regional influence—not simply a conventional trade agreement.
His colder formulation was that the governments may be “figuring out how to divide the pie”: China could reduce involvement in Central and South America or the Middle East, while Washington moderates its posture in parts of Asia-Pacific.
2. The CEO delegation is an export sales force
Benioff interpreted Xi’s request for a “wider door” literally: Trump, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Boeing’s Kelly Ortberg and Cargill’s Brian Sikes were presented as America’s best category salespeople, pursuing chips, planes, soybeans and energy orders.
The reported commitments already included additional soybeans, US oil and LNG, plus 200 Boeing aircraft. Visa and Mastercard’s attendance suggested another prize—greater access to a payments market dominated by local super-app ecosystems.
For voters, Friedberg said the summit matters through second- and third-order effects: export demand can support jobs and income, while restored trade could cut store prices by 30%-40%. Those visible outcomes, not diplomatic pageantry, would influence November voting.
3. China access comes with unusual operating constraints
Salesforce has never maintained Chinese offices or employees; any presence inherited through an acquisition is divested. Its exclusive Alibaba arrangement hosts the product and data locally, allowing global customers such as Louis Vuitton and Loro Piana to operate a compatible Chinese deployment.
Benioff called Tesla’s Chinese operation—with no partnership, American-made AI cars and cameras circulating locally—“pretty incredible.” Jason supplied the cynical counterpoint: access also helped China study the company and build formidable EV competitors.
The panel admired BYD’s products but split on market access. Jason argued that imported Chinese cars priced around $20,000-$30,000 would mean “the end of the US automotive industry overnight,” neatly capturing the conflict between consumer deflation and domestic industrial protection.
4. Trade politics may matter less than district maps and capital
Asked whether China policy would decide the midterms, Chamath called that “above my pay grade” and redirected attention to Supreme Court rulings, state-level redistricting and the money accumulating behind the parties. Gerrymandering, in his view, could overwhelm the summit’s electoral effect.
He highlighted Andreessen Horowitz as the cycle’s largest donor and interpreted its political expansion as business strategy: an AUM business marching from roughly $100 billion toward $1 trillion must join America’s “financial firmament,” particularly when investing in more geopolitically influenced parts of the capital cycle.
Jason and Benioff emphasized the domestic stakes. Benioff said Xi’s focus has been moving 500 million people from poverty into the middle class; Jason also cited China’s population, real-estate and GDP problems, while Benioff warned that falling GDP and pressure on factories put that progress at risk.
5. Advanced chips may be a bargaining chip, not a durable blockade
Benioff’s blunt assessment was that withholding the highest-end chips is “irrelevant at this point.” Chinese labs learned to produce excellent models without them and can reproduce capabilities the US had a year earlier, so he would “probably just sell whatever we can.”
Friedberg argued that technology diffusion raises global productivity and lowers conflict risk. As TSMC expands in Arizona and Huawei supports mainland fabs and semiconductor equipment, Taiwan’s chip concentration could cease to be the decisive US-China security issue.
Chamath put a sharper clock on it: “We’re 18 months from Taiwan not being an important moment of conversation” in its current form, as chip fabs scale and he estimated the remaining strategic gap may be only “1 to 2 nanometers.” His commercial conclusion was equally direct: “Sell the chips” so Nvidia wins before Huawei gets enough oxygen. He also called for reasonable KYC on model use to reduce the risk of dangerous applications such as bioweapons.
On exchanging reduced US arms sales to Taiwan for reduced Chinese arms sales to Iran, Friedberg called the proposition nuanced but “probably” tradable. Benioff would not answer whether America should defend Taiwan during a blockade, dismissing the scenario as a “nonsense issue” and predicting eventual reconciliation.
6. SaaS has been repriced before the disruption reached reported numbers
The host’s damage ledger put Salesforce down 37%, ServiceNow 42% and Workday 45%, erasing about $180 billion of market value. Benioff accepted the label—“It’s the SaaS apocalypse”—but added, “It’s not my first SaaS apocalypse.”
His evidence against the terminal-decline thesis was operating performance: the top 10 enterprise-software companies had strong quarters even while trading near two times sales, including HubSpot. “There’s a hypnosis around AI,” he said, but the feared displacement had not yet appeared in the numbers.
Salesforce expects more than $46 billion of revenue and $16 billion of cash flow this year with over 83,000 employees. Benioff tells staff they cannot “get drunk on the stock price”; customer success, revenue, cash flow and innovation are controllable, whereas public-market emotion is not.
The rerating also created an allocation opportunity. Salesforce initiated a buyback of as much as $50 billion, while cheaper software assets make acquisitions more attractive: “Everything’s a little cheaper. I like that.”
7. Enterprise relationships separate defensible platforms from disposable apps
Chamath thinks “the low end of the market is basically finished,” but large monoliths remain comparatively safe. His evidence was an OpenAI deployment transaction requiring $4 billion and a guaranteed 17.5% preferred return to recreate consulting capacity comparable to EY, Deloitte, PwC or Cognizant.
That structure demonstrates why enterprise adoption is not “boop boop boop, put in a prompt and beep boop, it all works.” Integration, accountability and organizational trust remain expensive even when model capability improves.
His rebound screen favors constructive net-dollar retention, predictable negative churn and long-standing access to CEOs and the C-suite. When investors ask, “You’ve spent $3 trillion in the last four years—what is the ROI of these tokens?”, model suppliers may need those incumbents to commercialize consumption.
Jason offered a related observation from Ohalo: his company dropped narrow vertical applications while doubling down on horizontal platforms that support proprietary workflows. He sees a potential arbitrage in separating founder versus non-founder and vertical versus horizontal software.
8. Context, not the model alone, is Salesforce’s AI moat
Benioff said probabilistic AI needs grounding, a semantic layer and a “single source of truth.” That logic drove the roughly $8 billion-$9 billion Informatica acquisition, aimed at harmonized, federated and integrated customer data.
Agentforce illustrates the operating model: a caller reaches an agent first, gets authenticated and is automatically escalated when necessary; the human then sees the preceding interaction and relevant records. Phone, web automation and employees become one service workflow.
Salesforce’s architecture was built for applications to surface through APIs rather than a fixed interface. Benioff listed XML, SOAP, REST, A2A and MCP interfaces, plus a new AXL API intended to stream application functionality into language models and devices.
9. Slack can become both a corporate memory and an agent distribution layer
Benioff said the context required for a company “world model” lives heavily in Slack and email. Slackbot can read available channels and messages, connect to Salesforce and Google, then answer questions such as the top five deals, employee concerns or management’s three highest priorities.
Jason’s pushback was commercial: Slack should be more open and cheaper because useful data access still depends on confusing plan tiers. After upgrading, he built a prompt that reviews Slack every two hours, identifies decisions and judges them through chief-of-staff, CEO and board-member personas.
Agents also reopen neglected distribution. Salesforce calculated that it failed to return 20 million-30 million people over 27 years because humans were unavailable; in one week, Benioff said agents called back 50,000 prospects and qualified them through a recently acquired company, Qualified.
The efficiency claim extends to production: Benioff expects Salesforce to consume roughly $300 million of Anthropic for coding this year. Humans, agents and headless platforms now work together, letting the company implement and sell software simultaneously.
10. Coding agents forced every AI lab to refocus
The host summarized a reported OpenAI-Apple dispute: Siri requires users to invoke ChatGPT explicitly, Apple provided little promotion, and anticipated subscription billions did not materialize. Apple reportedly raised privacy concerns while resenting OpenAI’s hardware ambitions and recruitment of Jony Ive.
Benioff zoomed out from the contract fight. Grok pursued companions, OpenAI pursued Sora and advertising, Gemini had Nano Banana, while Anthropic concentrated on coding agents; when “Anthropic 4.6 hit,” he said, coding shifted from incremental productivity to a capability everyone could use.
His caricature of the industry reset was memorable: “Coding agents. Everybody focus, focus. Kill Sora. Get rid of that. Sex bots off. Cursor on.” Product management, engineering and design are blending together, with some developers speaking prompts through Wispr Flow and foot pedals instead of typing.
11. Multi-sensory systems reopen the device and token-cost debates
Friedberg saw Google’s opportunity in an assistant grounded across email, calendar, Drive, Photos and G Suite. Apple could build, white-label or acquire a lab such as Perplexity or Mistral, then exploit its hardware footprint and privacy positioning.
Jason favored powerful local models, citing an M5 MacBook with 48GB of RAM and future Studio machines discussed with up to a terabyte. The counterargument was persistence: intelligence must follow a person across browsers, computers and devices, rather than remain trapped on a five-pound laptop.
Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines real-time world-model demo suggested a new form factor: watch the desktop, listen to voices and observe the webcam, sending updates every 200 milliseconds to real-time and retrospective models. Jason estimated always-on use could increase token demand 1,000-fold.
Benioff agreed that “multi-sensory models are the next big wave” but rejected permanent cost extrapolation. Edge and cloud intelligence will combine, while a routing layer sends routine work to smaller models and only hard tasks to Anthropic or OpenAI: needing a shower does not mean “all the water.”
12. El Niño and opaque SPVs are separate late-cycle stress tests
Friedberg called the oceans “the battery of weather” and estimated 11 million terawatt-hours of excess stored energy, versus 25,000 terawatt-hours of annual human consumption. With possible sea-temperature anomalies around 4 degrees, he assigned 99% confidence to the hottest year by far in recent history or the available record.
His regional map included atmospheric rivers in California and the Gulf Coast, northern heat and low snowfall, prolonged Southwest heat domes, and fewer Atlantic hurricanes. Crop failures in Brazil, Australia or India could spike food and power prices; he called a failed Indian monsoon a high-probability event that would threaten 150 million farmers and 1.5 billion consumers.
The India scenario compounds weather with nitrogen-fertilizer constraints tied to Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. Warmer northern land and improved genetics may expand soybean production in Canada, but Friedberg warned that simultaneous failures could remove the usual global “give and take.”
Anthropic’s move to negate platforms selling layered SPVs drew Chamath’s full support. Investors can face double carry, a 10% loading fee and entry 10% above the prior round; after SpaceX, Anthropic or OpenAI goes public, he expects lawsuits from holders who discover somebody was “screwed” inside the layers.
